Children in a playground up north see
Kim Dotcom as a modern-day Robin Hood.
Robber Kim, Robber Kim, robbed the internet
Robber Kim, y'can't catch him, grabbed all that could get
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robber Kim, Robber Kim, our Robin Hood
He raided robber barons who had robbed their workers blind
So he could help the poorest of the poor
The FBI imprisoned him but nothing could they find
And he escaped to help the broz once more.
Robber Kim, Robber Kim, riding through the courts
Robber Kim, y'can't catch him, fighting gov'ment rorts
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robber Kim, Robber Kim, our Robin Hood
Our cuzzies needed mana to rise up from the dark
So big Kim helped them vote and find the light
With his lawyers always ready, and his answers razor sharp
He used them fighting for what was right.
Robber Kim, Robber Kim, king of the internet
Robber Kim, y'can't catch him, making Tories sweat
Feared by the bad, loved by the good
Robber Kim, Robber Kim, our Robin Hood
Kim Dotcom
Kim Dotcom is a roguish New Zealand folk hero who has taken on the might of giant American corporations and dodgy New Zealand government ministers who serve their interests instead of protecting New Zealand citizens.
He was born
Kim Schmitz, in Germany, 1974. In the 1990s, he extracted a small fortune from big businesses by using the internet for data espionage, computer fraud and insider trading.
Fleeing to Hong Kong, he formed a file-sharing website called Megaupload. Users paid a subscription to download music and video material uploaded by others, and some of the money was paid to the uploaders of the most popular material.
This encouraged hackers to upload popular CDs and Hollywood movies. It attracted 50 million suscribers a day, causing CD and DVD sales in the USA to fall dramatically. He changed his name to Kim Dotcom and moved to New Zealand.
Big American record and movie corporations paid large sums of money to President Obama to have the US government stop him. FBI agents came to New Zealand and persuaded the NZ government to raid Dotcom's family home, take away all his belongings, and throw him in jail.
But the police failed to get proper warrants. He was set free and his property was returned.
The Internet-Mana Party
In 2014 Kim formed the Internet Party with a policy of taking away giant corporations' control of the internet, and thus helping ordinary people out of their poverty. He formed a coalition with the Mana Party, which has strong support in the poorest parts of New Zealand.
