I wander through the streets I used to know well as a child With the spring flowers in profusion and the bush all growing wild And in the trees, each hidden bird sings out its lone, wild part And the healing sound of water fills my heart I can't stay - the time is going fast I can't stay suspended in my past My future lies ten thousand miles away Now I live high in the mountains, far above the desert sands Where the winds of winter chill me and I'm soaked by heavy rains* And summer nights are redolent of flowers and wild herbs But the healing sound of water can't be heard There were lakes and streams and rivers all around when I was young And every day, the harbour winds laid salt upon my tongue I've learned to live without them in this parched and arid land But in my dreams, the healing sound of water runs again. * This was before the years of drought - we should now be so lucky!

Jill was born and raised in Wellington, New Zealand, went to univerity there and got considerable experience in training the choir of a local Jewish youth group and arranging songs for it. She has lived in Israel since 1979. She specialises in traditional music - particularly British and Celtic - and has sung with many different musicians throughout Israel and in Britain. In 1998, she was invited to sing Schubert lieder in a series of concerts in Israel; she has continued her classical studies with Judi Axelrod and Philip Griffin, and in master classes with Neil Jenkins (UK). She is just finishing a compilation of Jacobite songs, and is preparing a new program of songs about women from both the medieval and the traditional repertoires.
In recent years, Jill has begun writing songs. When she was last back in NZ, she was inspired to write The Healing Sound of Water after hearing the wonderful sound of a running stream back in her old neighbourhood in Wellington.
