Reupena Ngata & Alan Armstrong

Maori Action Songs

AH & AW Reed, 136 pages.

Recently released again in 2002.

In 1908, Apirana Ngata pioneered the action song as a modern addition to Maori performing arts. Kapa haka groups need much study and discipline to combine words, music and action.

This book provides a concise introduction to this art form, and then outlines in simple terms 30 songs for different occasions with words, music and actions described in easy-to-follow diagrams.

Reupena Ngata is Sir Apirana Ngata's grandson, and Alan Anderson tutored the Army's Maori concert party.
